Examples of defined relationships are family relationships, friendship, teacher/mentor/guardian to student/mentee/ward relationship, boyfriend and girlfriend relationship etc.
An undefined relationship is a relationship that exists between two people who are unclear about what they mean or who they are to each other.
Undefined relationships is usually in between friendship and dating.
So we have two people catching feelings for each other who can't fully exercise their emotions because they haven't come to agreement to do that. It breeds a lot of things from insecurity, to the fear of the unknown, to jealousy to sleepless nights, to unnecessary heartaches that don't have the permission to be voiced out, waste of time and sometimes waste of emotions etc.
Should undefined relationship be eliminated completely
My take?
No!
Why because it's a part of the process BUT it should be a short stage. The value of undefined relationship is to figure out whether your emotions, your needs, your beliefs, your principles are in line enough to begin a lovers relationship and if not whether you're willing to compromise or not.
So now what happens when an undefined relationship is stressed longer than it should last.
•The partner concealing more emotions tend to act crazy, and possessive without a just cause. This often turns off the other partner.
•You tend to start making investments in a relationship that doesn't exist and that makes you feel like you're giving more
• If your partner is someone who is scared of commitment then you're in for it because you will be in that undefined relationship for a long time. Your partner can easily excuse himself /herself from this relationship if he/she meets someone else and you really have no say concerning that.
• Your feelings may be deeper than the average human being so that means it may take you a very long time to get over such a person if things eventually doesn't work out.
What you can do to prevent this
While enjoying the short period of the undefined relationship, make conscious effort to decide what you want from the relationship and then define the relationship also DO NOT lead a person on if you're not interested.
